Hello! My name is Tonia, I am a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), Diabetes Prevention Certified Lifestyle Coach (DPP), and registered in nutrition and dietetics. I have been working in nutrition education for more than 34 years. Over the past 22 years, my focus has been helping people with chronic disease heal through improving their diet, reviewing their relationship with food, and by developing sustainable lifestyle habits.
I have been passionate about food and nutrition since I can remember. I come from strong Italian roots and the love of food and cooking has been something that has been passed down through generations, as has the love of pasta and sweets! My own challenges regarding food led me to review what a healthy relationship with food is and what that means to me.
I know from experience that our diet, mental health, and weight management is much more than what we eat. I believe it is intertwined with our feelings, our environment, and social aspects of our lives. Because of that, I am passionate about holistic approaches that integrate the mind, body, and spirit. That is what drew me to the Eating Freely program. The Eating Freely program combines four pillars that are an integral part of resolving disordered eating. They include Nutritional Rehabilitation, Mindfulness + Self- Compassion, Neuroscience, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. The Eating Freely program is structured to help anyone wanting to quit the dieting roller coaster and heal their complicated relationship with food.
As I have delved deeper into health and wellness, the one thing that I continue to come back to is the importance of listening. People want to be heard and understood. As an Emotional and Binge Eating Disorder Specialist, my goal is to listen to understand.
