Emotional eating is a key saboteur across a range of health issues. You see it every day.
On their file you may even see notes on 'non-adherence', 'non-compliant' or 'diabetes distress' - none of which are the actual problem.
But you’ll never get to the root of what's really stopping them from being pro-active about their health if you don’t know how to ask about their emotional relationship with food.

The More Than Weight report (West Yorkshire ICB, 2025) found that 66% of adults in weight management services report frequent emotional eating.
BUT…
only 35% of health professionals feel equipped to support them.
That gap - between what clients need and what practitioners feel able to offer - is where people fall through.
In Type 2 Diabetes, at least 40% of patients meet the criteria for Binge Eating Disorder.
Up to 80% of bariatric surgery patients had at least one adverse psychological event in their past.
In infertility, patients with PMOS are three times more likely to engage inbinge type behaviours. In endometriosis patients are 3 times more likely to have Eating Disorder symptoms.
The majority of clients you see for any health issue, who struggle with food, their weight or their body image, are sub-clinical for an actual eating disorder diagnosis. But they are still struggling, and it is impacting every area of their life - including the work you're trying to do with them.
YET
Fewer than 27% of health professionals report ever screening for Binge Eating Disorder.
This is a systemic problem – practitioners are simply not trained in any area of disordered eating during their foundational programs in nutrition, therapy or health coaching.
But when a problem is so deeply embedded into every area of health care, we owe it to ourselves as professionals, and to our clients, to ensure we are starting from the right place with ALL the information we need.
Founder & Clinical Director, Eating Freely
Hi, I’m Emma. I’ve been a disordered eating specialist for almost 20 years, and a specialist trainer since 2018.
I built this training because I keep seeing the same thing – practitioners who genuinely want to help their clients with problem eating, but have never been given the tools to do it properly.
You probably don't want or need to take our full training to specialise in emotional eating and binge eating disorder, but you DO need a toolkit to offer at least some support clients who disclose emotional eating or binge eating.
This training is designed to give you confidence in supporting clients who struggle with their food, weight and body image – and know when you need to refer them on for specialist support.

Health coaches, fitness professionals, nutritionists, therapists, counsellors, psychologists, diabetes educators, doctors, nurses - anyone working with clients whose relationship with food is complex.
Yes. This training is specifically designed for practitioners outside the Eating Freely network. No prior Eating Freely training is required.
Six months from the date you enrol. I recommend setting aside a specific time each week to work through one module, take the CE quiz, answer the reflective questions and ask any questions you have on our online forum. Then bring your learning back to your practice, clients or patients and use it!
Once you've completed the first few sessions, you will be ablet to begin applying your learning in practice. That's when you might want to join a monthly Q&A with one of our trainers to ask any questions you have, present a case study client or just dive deeper into the material you're learning. Monthly live Q&A's are optional, and a fantastic additional support for you as you work through the training.
A maximum of two hours a week for your self-paced study. If you attend the optional live sessions, add an hour a month.
The live Q&A’s are a great opportunity to ask questions, present a tricky client and go deeper with the training content. The more you put into this training, the more you’ll take out of it.
